Minister: A priest or a bishop may administer the Anointing of the Sick
Form: Prayer of the priest/bishop over the sick person for the grace of the Holy Spirit and the forgiveness of sins.
Matter: Anointing with Holy Oil and Imposition of hands
Rite: A priest or bishop lays his hands on the sick person's hands. Then he anoints the sick person on the forehead and palms of the hands with the oil of the sick, a holy oil that has been blessed by a bishop.
The sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is called for when someone is seriously ill, at the point of death, or about to undergo a serious operation. Also an elderly person whose frailty has become worse can call for this sacrament.
1) Peter heals a man who had been lame his entire life.
2) The sick were brought to the apostles on the off chance that Peter's shadow might cross over them and cause them to be healed.
3) Paul resurrecting a man from the dead.
God offers to bring us safely to heaven. It is a remarkable sign of God's love for us. He gives us one last chance for our sins to be forgiven before we die. He reaches out for every one of us and gives us an extra chance.
